Being totally unfamiliar with Vallee when I first saw Close Encounters, I believed LaCombe was a purely fictional character (and an excuse to have Truffaut in the movie).
This controversy over the LaCombe character is pointless. People in Ufology sometimes seem to live solely for personally attacking each other and ceaselessly arguing over minutae.
